Our Ignorance

We stand alongside our mother

We may not be related by blood

But she is our Mother Nature

We cherish her gifts

Yet send destruction towards her

Our brothers and sisters gaze at her beauty everyday

Still she continues to wither away

She was there to console them as infants

To raise them to become working models of society

And raise them she did,

The harvests she grew

Mountains and mountains of fruit

And the animals she sheltered

Hid behind her, cowering in fear

She tried to be fair

But all is lost the moment when her own children turned to greed

They poisoned the lands

Destroyed shelters

Murdered innocent creatures

They asked for more and more

Until she had nothing to give

And for what?

Money? Power?

They left their mother to salvage from the ruins

To this day mother continues to nurture those around her

Only this time her cries are passed on to our ignorant ears
